She always knew she was adopted. When she asked her mother, Teresa, what had happened to her biological parents, each time she was told a different story: sometimes her biological mother had died in childbirth, sometimes herparents had died in an accident. All these stories always ended in death. Teresa died when she was 14 years old. Gradually her voice, her gestures and the way she related to her started to get lost, until she was left with the fear of not being part of anything anymore. From then on, the need to search for her biological mother grew. And with it the possibility to replace those stories she knew were invented by a real name, a face, a voice, a place, a past. Twenty years later she found Jacinta, her biological mother in a small village in Colombia. They met only twice and very quickly it became clear that they didn't really understand each other. The encounter seemed to fail. Once she thought this film would show how our origin reveals who we really are, but the truth is that she found something completely different: Beyond whatever happen to us, we can always choose who to become. Dawn is a film about motherhood, bonds, love and loss, about all the experiences and memories that make us who and how we really are.
