In an ambiance loaded with tension, intellectual doubts and creative frustration, Rainer Werner Fassbinder writes and teaches the staging of a theater piece about the 18th century Libertiage at a great theater in Berlín.
The personal ambitions, the inner demons and a latent desire of psychological revenge, poison the relations between Fassbinder and the actors. Specially with Günther Kaufmann, whom was in other times the lover of the director and nowadays is a married man with two children. The collision of values and character in between these two characters is inevitable, even though both need each other for different reasons.
